Woman dies after Market Street collision

A woman in her 70s has died after she was hit by a van when crossing the road in Whitworth on Tuesday (11 July).

Police are now appealing for witnesses.

Emergency services were called to the scene at about 2.30pm on Tuesday, after the collision between a pedestrian and a Fiat Fiorina van on the A671 Market Street in Whitworth.
 


The pedestrian, a local woman in her 70s, who was crossing the road, suffered serious injuries and sadly died at the scene.

The van driver was unhurt.

The road was closed for several hours while emergency services dealt with the incident.

Sergeant Pete Fyans, of Lancashire Police's road policing Unit, said: “My thoughts are with the loved ones of the lady who has sadly lost her life as a result of this collision. I would appeal to anyone who saw the collision or who may have CCTV, dashcam or Ring doorbell or mobile footage to get in touch.”
