Cadet unit manager needed for St John Ambulance first aid unit to open

The forthcoming St John Ambulance Cadet Unit on Spotland Road needs a unit manager for the first aid group to open.

The first aid charity is setting up a cadet unit based at 7th A Rochdale Scout Group on Spotland Road to teach vital first aid skills to young people.

However, the unit needs a manager to be able to open and provide first aid skills.

The role is a permanent part-time voluntary position for 16-20 hours each week.

The role of the unit manager is a mixture of management and leadership, being responsible for almost all aspects of volunteer development and community output, including decision making, setting unit goals,

The unit manager will lead weekly meetings, organise other youth development activities and actively participate in the recruitment, training and retention of the young people and volunteers in the unit.

The unit manager will provide support and guidance to their unit’s volunteers and young people, as well as being an “empowering and encouraging role model” who is open-minded, inclusive and an active listener and clear communicator.

In addition to an induction, the unit manager will have access to courses, (including first aid training) workshops and online learning to develop their management and leadership skills, and there are people who can offer support.

The unit manager must be keen to engage with young people and volunteers and guide them to achieve their goals, says St John Ambulance, whilst aligning with its HEART values of humanity, excellence, accountability, responsiveness and teamwork.

The unit manager will also be expected to make decisions, set goals and engage in “district-wide goals to improve the service” and inspire young people to get involved in social action.
