Volunteers wanted for St John Ambulance first aid cadet unit

Date published: 16 February 2023

Volunteers are wanted for a new St John Ambulance cadet unit in Rochdale.

Volunteers over the age of 18 are needed to teach valuable lifesaving skills to young people ages 10 – 17.

The first aid charity will be setting up a cadet unit at 7th A Rochdale Scout Group on Spotland Road, with days and times of sessions to be determined.

Adult volunteers will gain communication, listening and presentation skills and grow in confidence.

You’ll also have the chance to learn First Aid and take on more advanced roles with training, all while being fully
supported by the rest of your team.

Under your leadership, young volunteers will develop their potential, they will learn vital first-aid skills that they can deliver at events and activities around the country. They will gain confidence, make friends and engage in community and social change. As a unit, adults and young people together, you will have a real impact on your community.

Established over 70 years before the NHS, the first aid charity has helped millions of people by delivering and teaching the simple, yet incredibly important, skill of first aid.

Created by The Order of St John, it originally had the dual aim of training people in ‘First Aid to the Injured’ and the distribution of ambulance equipment.

Since 1877, St John Ambulance has trained hundreds of thousands of people in the workplace, schools and wider community, alongside providing first aid at some of the nation’s most memorable historical events, and supporting the emergency services during times of war, terror and social unrest.
