In a separate presentation, Frank Gac and Steve Cookson gave Rochdale Heartbeat a £200 donation on behalf of Castleton Bowling and Social Club
Local charity Rochdale Heartbeat has donated a portable cardiac defibrillator machine to Castleton Bowling and Social Club.
This life-saving equipment – which gives a high energy electric shock to the heart of someone who is in cardiac arrest – is becoming essential for sporting and social clubs with a large number of regular attendees, who could become subject to cardiac arrest due to underlying heart problems.
To help someone who is in cardiac arrest effectively, a defibrillator needs to be found as quickly as possible. For every minute it takes for the defibrillator to reach someone and deliver a shock, their chances of survival reduce by up to 10%.
Treasurer Frank Gac said: “Thanks Pam and Karen and Rochdale Heartbeat for this great piece of equipment. Our members will feel safer now that there is this backup if anyone gets a sudden heart emergency needing defibrillation.”
In a separate presentation, Frank and Club Vice President Steve Cookson gave the charity a £200 donation on behalf of the club. Members have also started a collection of spent printer ink cartridges to raise even more funds.
Rochdale Heartbeat became a registered charity in 1990 and has raised well in excess of £350,000 through fundraising events. In that time, it has purchased and donated more than 40 defibrillators to local schools, sports venues and churches.
Last year, the charity received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
