A 74-year-old grandma has become the oldest member at a Rochdale martial arts dojo to earn a brown belt.
Carol Clarke received her 3rd kyu brown belt in karate from the Dojo Karate Centre on Sunday (6 November).
Carol started training four years ago alongside her daughter and two grandchildren to support them – and take part in a family activity – before finding a love and focus in martial arts. After her daughter and grandson decided to have a break, Carol continued to train with her granddaughter and hasn’t let anything stop her.
Sensei Jacqueline Lawrence said: “Carol has worked incredibly hard to gain her 3rd Kyu which is a fantastic achievement as anyone at our club will tell you. Many often give up due to the time and dedication needed to be at a standard to gain higher grades.
“Carol shows amazing dedication, focus, physical and mental strength, and determination along with so many other characteristics needed to gain such a grade.
“A huge well done to our oldest member to receive their brown belt at our club; we are incredibly proud of you.”
