The Rochdale AFC match against Barrow AFC at the Crown Oil Arena on Saturday 15 October will be dedicated to the #HerGameToo campaign to reinforce the message that Rochdale Football Club is open to all.
#HerGameToo is a voluntary organisation run by female football fans who wanted to raise awareness of sexist abuse in football and to also encourage fellow female fans to share their experiences.
On the day, representatives from the club's #HerGameToo team will be available in the fanzone from 11.30am to answer any questions, and will talk to children and their families at Desmond’s Den.
Personalised campaign flags will be shown on Sandy Lane with smaller flags given to junior fans.
Rochdale Ladies will be flag bearers and official ball crew whilst music on the day will be a playlist of female artists.
Leading up to the fixture, Nicola Toolan has been appointed as the new chair of Rochdale AFC Ladies and goalkeeper Richard O’Donnell joined the team.
Charlotte Cromarty, Rochdale AFC’s #HerGameToo official ambassador, said: “We will be working closely with Rich; he will be taking on training sessions a couple of times a month with our female teams but we will be working closely with Rochdale in the community and doing visits to schools, after school clubs etc.”
#HerGameToo Rochdale has also teamed up with Rochdale in the Community to provide a drop-off point for sanitary products in The Bus in the community office.
Baskets will be filled before a match day for all fans (home and away).
As part of the campaign, three players will be interviewed for the club's YouTube channel talking about influential females in their lives, and manager Jim Bentley will talk about #HerGameToo in his pre-match interview.
Rochdale AFC became an official partner of the campaign in October 2021, with fan Charlotte Cromarty as the club's official ambassador.
The Rochdale #HerGameToo team is made up of Leanne Connolly, Victoria Overton, Isabelle Whiteley, Kirsty McDermott, Charlie Stansfield and goalkeeper Richard O’Donnell.
