Award for Newlands School

Newlands School, Middleton has been presented with the Abdul Chowdhury Award for excellence in Health and Safety,
The award was presented to Deputy Head, Helen Wilkinson during a lively ‘Celebration Assembly’ at the school alongside many other certificates and ‘Superstar Awards’ given to the children for their fantastic achievements in school and excellent behaviour.
Helen takes responsibility for Health and Safety at Newlands, which is a special school catering for 75 youngsters.
Helen’s award winning initiative is a pocket sized information card for staff, providing a summary of Health and Safety Law – ‘What you need to know’.
This is issued to all members of staff, is easily accessible and serves as a reminder of how to keep safe whilst at work.
Councillor Martin Burke, Shelia Downey, Director of Adult Care and Victoria Jackson from the Central Safety Unit at Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council visited the school on 7 October to the presentation.
