Wardle High School present a charity cheque to the Mayoress

Date published: 16 May 2013

On Wednesday 8 May three pupils from Wardle High School attended a Cancer Research UK coffee morning at Rochdale Town Hall to present a cheque for £684.90 to the Mayoress, Mrs Jane Gartside and Kath Hazlehurst, Chair of Rochdale Cancer Research.

Emma Conway, 11, Casey Musgrave, 11, and Autumn Harbour, 12 presented the cheque which represented 50% of the proceeds of a non-uniform day, a raffle and a cake sale which have all taken place at Wardle High School over the last few months. The remaining 50% was donated to a Cystic Fibrosis charity. The fund-raising was planned by Year 7 pupils; they were inspired by the courage of two fellow pupils who have cystic fibrosis and leukaemia. As part of their work on these charities all the pupils in Year 7 researched the diseases and created presentations which they delivered in a Community Assembly.

Cancer Research UK is the world's leading charity dedicated to saving lives through research. Funded entirely by the public, they are working to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. They are the only charity fighting over 200 cancers.

Wardle High School is always keen to raise money for good causes. In the past, the students have raised money for charities such as Children in Need and the Poppy Appeal, earlier in the academic year the school hosted a Macmillan coffee morning and annually support Operation Christmas Child.
