Mutual model secures funding allocation

Date published: 02 July 2012

The UK’s largest mutual social housing organisation has secured funding to build over 100 new homes through the Homes and Communities Agency’s (HCA) Affordable Homes Programme.

In March, Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) took over Rochdale Council’s housing stock as it changed from an ALMO to a membership based provider and this month it has now signed an affordable homes programme contract with the HCA for £2.1 million.
Gareth Swarbrick, Chief Executive for RBH said: “The fact our ambitious offer has been approved is great news. It is part of our promise to deliver quality new affordable homes as part of the establishment of the new mutual model.

“We will be looking to build 100 homes from now until 2015 - including an extra care scheme for older people – a first for RBH.”

The first developments for this new funding round have already been given planning permission with six new homes being developed in Newbold and 14 in Heywood.

Deborah McLaughlin, Executive Director from the North West at the HCA said: “We are keen to see homes being delivered and progress being made on important local projects. I know this funding has been hugely anticipated and, through the dedication and hard work of all partners involved, the new homes being built will make an important contribution to the local community.”
