Local mosques brought to life with family fun day initiative
Date published: 26 August 2024
The event took place at the Sparth Islamic Centre car park, close to Ghausia Mosque in Sparth Bottoms, on Sunday, 11 August.
The Young Khadims hosted their second annual family fun day under the “My Masjid My Future” scheme, bringing the community together for a day of activities and celebration.
The event took place at the Sparth Islamic Centre Car Park, also known as Ghausia Mosque in Sparth Bottoms, on Sunday 11 August.
The “My Masjid My Future” scheme, launched last year, encourages the local community to make use of mosque facilities such as car parks, community halls, and classrooms to benefit society.
Jamal Aziz of The Young Khadims said: “It was a great pleasure to host this annual event with the team for our community once again.
“We had a variety of activities going on, including stalls, rides, a bouncy castle, face painting, henna, an ice cream van, a Mickey Mouse mascot, football, and performances. The weather was also on our side, which was a bonus too.”
He extended his gratitude to all who supported the event, adding: “I would like to thank everyone that supported this initiative, from the stallholders to the ride operators, the volunteers, the artists, the local community who came out to attend, the Ghausia Mosque management, and the local businesses who supported this initiative.”
Councillor Amber Nisa, who attended the fun day, praised the event, saying: “It was great to see so many families out enjoying the sun and getting together to support the mosque and youth projects. A massive well done to The Young Khadims, Jamal, and everyone who helped organise today’s event.”
A representative from the Sparth Islamic Centre also commended the efforts of The Young Khadims, stating: “This is one of many projects organised by the team at our mosque, which was yet another success.
“It really does bring us joy that young people from our communities are taking the lead and responsibility, following in the footsteps of the elders who built and started the work at the mosques.
"We pray that these youngsters stay on the right path and continue doing the great work they do, not only here in Sparth Bottoms but all around our town.”
Jamal Aziz also expressed his appreciation to the local councillors, saying, “I just want to say a special word of thanks to Councillor Amber Nisa and Councillor Minaam Elahi, who took time out to attend the fun day and show their support.”
The event was made possible by a dedicated team of volunteers, including Sohaib, Zaryab, Abdullah, Yazdan, Taseen, Wahad, Roohan, Subhaan Abbas, Subhaan Rafiq, Ayoob, Abdul Rahim, and Abdul Basit, whose efforts were instrumental in managing the event successfully.
