A night at the Casino

Date published: 12 June 2012

A casino themed night was held at The Chill Mill on 16 May, which over 60 service users attended and enjoyed.

This was the first themed night that The Chill Mill held and proved a huge hit. Wendy Hamer, part of the Holt Mill day service, said: “The night was a huge success. Everyone enjoyed it and had a great night.”

Poker, amongst other casino classics, was played to mark the theme “A night at the Casino” and cocktails were served along with a buffet. The highlights were an Oscar Award Ceremony, and everyone in attendance on the night received an Oscar. Tanya Brierley took home the Best Dressed Female and Stephen Thompson took home the Best Dressed Male.

The Chill Mill put to use their darts and snooker facilities by offering the highest score a winning a trophy.

The newly formed social club, The Chill Mill, resides in Holt Mill, Whitworth. It is open every Wednesday, from 6.00pm - 8.00pm offering all service users, aged 19 and above, from in and around the borough a safe environment to have fun and relax. The last Wednesday of the month is always a Disco Night, with a DJ and themed nights usually fall in the middle of the month.

The service users have a social committee which decide on the themes for the nights.

There are talks about an Olympic theme for the next event, to coincide with the games. The committee receive a guidance input from Healey Care staff.
