Police officer arrested after Rochdale car crash leaves man fighting for life

A Greater Manchester Police officer has been arrested over a crash in Rochdale over the weekend, which has left a man in a life-threatening condition.

A 42-year-old man, who was crossing the road at the time,  is fighting for life after the crash on Yorkshire Street at approximately 11pm on Friday (1 November).

Two men were arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, one of them an off-duty police officer.

Both have been released on bail while investigations continue, and the incident has been reported to GMP's Professional Standards Directorate.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “Three vehicles were travelling together along Yorkshire Street, when a collision occurred with a 42-year-old male who was attempting to cross the road.

“Two of the vehicles suspected of being involved are a blue Mercedes C250 and silver Mini Cooper S Sport.

“The man was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where he remains in a life-threatening condition.

“An off-duty police officer currently serving with GMP was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has been bailed pending further enquiries.”

GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are continuing to ask for witnesses and anyone who may have information regarding the incident.

This includes anyone with relevant dashcam, CCTV, mobile, or doorbell footage from the area and captures any of the incident.
