Police appeal after man in his 70s died after being hit by car

Police are appealing for information following a tragic road traffic collision in Middleton that resulted in the death of a man in his 70s. The incident occurred at approximately 7pm on Sunday 29 September on Grimshaw Lane.

According to initial reports, a Nissan Micra was travelling along Grimshaw Lane when it collided with a pedestrian at a junction.

The pedestrian sustained severe injuries and was immediately taken to hospital. Sadly, despite the efforts of medical professionals, he died shortly after his arrival.

The driver of the Nissan Micra remained at the scene following the accident. No arrests have been made, and police investigations are ongoing.

Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is now urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has footage from the area to come forward.

This includes dashcam, mobile phone, or doorbell footage that could shed light on the moments leading up to the collision.

Detectives are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was in the vicinity at the time. Witnesses or those with relevant information are asked to contact the police on 0161 856 4741, quoting log number 2814 of 29/09/2024.

Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the collision are ongoing.
