Information on current and forthcoming roadworks planned to take place across the borough.

Rochdale: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To install a new pedestrian crossing on St Mary's Gate

Expected start and finish: Monday 23 September 2024 – Thursday 27 March 2025
Restriction and location: Temporary 30mph speed limit on a section of St Mary's Gate in both directions. This will begin at its junction with Union Street and continue to its junction with Spotland Road. Vehicles will also be prohibited from waiting at any time along this section.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To resurface roads around Fieldway

Expected start and finish: 8am Monday 30 September 2024 – 6pm Sunday 6 October 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of the following roads:

  • Fieldway
  • Perth Road
  • Everest Street

Each of the above streets will be shut for their entire length.

Alternative route: Alternative routes for vehicles will be signed on site.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To resurface Mere Street

Expected start and finish: 8am Friday 4 October 2024 – 6pm Tuesday 8 October 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Mere Street, for its entire length.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be signed on street during the closure.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To resurface Norman Road and Albion Road

Expected start and finish: 8am–5.30pm each day on the following dates:

  • Saturday 5 October 2024 – Sunday 6 October 2024
  • Saturday 12 October 2024 – Sunday 13 October 2024
  • Saturday 19 October 2024 – Sunday 20 October 2024
  • Saturday 26 October 2024 – Sunday 27 October 2024
  • Saturday 2 November 2024 – Sunday 3 November 2024

Restriction and location: Temporary closure of the following roads:

  • Norman Road, from its junction with Dane Street to a point 178 metres away in a southerly direction.
  • Albion Road, for its entire length.

Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Dane Street, Manchester Road, the old section of Manchester Road and Sparth Bottoms Road.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To resurface roads around Crawford Street

Expected start and finish: 8am, Monday 7 October 2024 – 6pm, Saturday 12 October 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of the following roads:

  • Crawford Street
  • Bilberry Street
  • Morningside Close
  • Crowther Street
  • Sedgley Avenue

Each road will be closed for its entire length.
Alternative route: Alternative routes will be signed on site during the closure.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To carry out electrical works in the road

Expected start and finish: 7.30am, Thursday 17 October 2024 – 6pm, Wednesday 23 October 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Hope Street, from its junction with Redcross Street to a point 24 metres away in an easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Redcross Street, Wilson Street, Old Mill Street and Hope Street.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To maintain the tram tracks on Drake Street

Expected start and finish: 8am, Saturday 19 October 2024 – 6pm, Friday 8 November 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of a section of Drake Street. This will start at the junction with South Parade and continue to a point 178 metres away in a southerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for buses will be South Parade, Newgate, St Mary's Gate, John Street, Molesworth Street, Milnrow Road and Drake Street.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To install a BT cable in Toad Lane.

Expected start and finish: 8am, Monday 21 October 2024 – 6pm, Friday 25 October 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of a section of Toad Lane. This will begin at its junction with Lower Falinge and continue to a point 66 metres away in a southerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Toad Lane, Howard Street, Whitehall Street. Hope Street, Redcross Street and Waterhouse Street.


Middleton: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Middleton
Reason: To carry out bridge works - Boothroyden Road

Expected start and finish: Monday 12 August 2024 – Monday 11 August 2025.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of a section of Boothroyden Road. This will start at a point 34 metres south of its junction with Boothroyden Close and continue for a distance of 27 metres in a southerly direction.
Alternative route: There is no alternative route for vehicles.

Area: Middleton
Reason: To resurface the footpath on Broughton Close

Expected start and finish: 9am–4pm each day, Monday 9 September 2024 – Friday 18 October 2024 as required.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Broughton Close, from its junction with Millbeck Road to its end in a north easterly direction.
Alternative route: There is no alternative route for vehicles.


Heywood: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Heywood
Reason: To carry out required works to pavement and road on the Queens Park Road bridge and help traffic flow.

Expected start and finish: January 2024 – December 2024.
Restriction and location:

  • Introduce one-way working in a northerly direction along Queens Park Road, from its junction with Heywood Hall Road to its junction with Bury and Rochdale Old Road.
  • Introduce one-way working in a southerly direction along Bamford Road from its junction with Bury and Rochdale Old Road to its junction with Heywood Hall Road.

Alternative routes:

  • The alternative route for vehicles wishing to travel along Queens Park Road in a southerly direction from Bury and Rochdale Old Road to its junction with Heywood Hall Road is via Bury and Rochdale Old Road (B6222), Bamford Road, Market Place, York Street (A58) and Queens Park Road.
  • The alternative route for vehicles wishing to travel along Bamford Road in a northerly direction from its junction with Heywood Hall Road to Bury and Rochdale Old Road is via Bamford Road, Market Place, York Street (A58), Queens Park Road and Bury and Rochdale Old Road.

Pennines: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Pennines
Reason: To repair damage to Openreach cables in Stone Street.

Expected start and finish: Monday 16 September 2024 – 9.30am, Monday 7 October 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of a section of Stone Street. This begins at its junction with Stonefield Street and ends at a point 52 metres away in a northerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles is Newhey Road, Dale Street, Leach Street and Stonefield Street.

Area: Pennines
Reason: To replace gas mains in the pavement on Simeon Street

Expected start and finish: Between Tuesday 17 September 2024 and Tuesday 15 October 2024, this order will be operative between the following times on each day, as and when required:

  • Monday – Friday: 7.30am – 4pm
  • Saturday – Sunday: 10am – 4pm

Restriction and location: Temporary closure of a section of Simeon Street. This will start at its junction with Delph Street and continue to a point 144 metres away in a south easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Simeon Street, Kiln Lane, Dale Street and Chapel Gate. Access will be maintained for residents and utility services only.

Area: Pennines
Reason: To rebuild a chamber in the carriageway on behalf of United Utilities - Shore Road

Expected start and finish: 9.30am – 3.30pm, Sunday 20 October 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of a section of Shore Road. This will start from a point 70 metres from its junction with Furness Avenue and continue to a point 40 metres away in an easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Shore Road, Calderbrook Road, Whalley Avenue, Furness Avenue and Shore Road.
