Court injunction secured to protect Freehold residents from organised crime

Date published: 21 September 2024

Efforts to combat organised crime in Freehold have taken a significant step forward, as a county court injunction has been secured against a resident involved in drug-related criminal activity.

The injunction, obtained by Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH), is aimed at safeguarding the community and cracking down on anti-social behaviour.

Anthony Shaw, 59, of Hartlebury, Freehold, has been issued a two-year court injunction. Should he breach its terms, which prohibit storing offensive weapons, engaging in threatening behaviour, or possessing illegal drugs, he will face arrest. This decisive legal measure is intended to bring greater protection to local residents.

The injunction comes after evidence from a police warrant executed at Mr Shaw's property by Greater Manchester Police (GMP) earlier this year. The information gathered was pivotal in securing the court’s decision, marking a clear move against criminal activity in the area.

Hayley Stockham, RBH’s director of neighbourhood services, highlighted the importance of the injunction, stating:

"We’re absolutely committed to improving our communities, and a crucial part of this is having zero tolerance for crime and anti-social behaviour, taking strong action whenever a report is made to us."

Stockham also emphasised the role of partnerships with local authorities in achieving these goals: "This injunction helps us to meet our goal of making sure Freehold is a safe neighbourhood that our customers are proud to call home."

Inspector Meena Yasin from GMP Rochdale echoed this sentiment, noting: "We know the devastating impacts that crimes of these nature can have on our communities.

"Close working with partners, and using innovative ways to target offenders, is crucial to preventing and disrupting criminal activity."

She encouraged local residents to remain vigilant and report any breaches of the injunction, stressing that community involvement is key to maintaining safety.

Residents are urged to report any suspicious behaviour to Greater Manchester Police via their website or by calling 101, and always dial 999 in an emergency.

Additionally, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.

RBH offers a Freephone service to report anti-social behaviour at 0800 027 7769 or it can be reported through their website.
