Mum takes on various fundraising challenges in memory of late son

Date published: 12 August 2024

A Littleborough mum has embarked on a series of ten fundraising challenges to honour the memory of her late son, Cole, and to raise money for The Lullaby Trust.

Maria Boscombe, who works at Belfield Community Primary School, tragically lost her son in 2014 to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), a devastating condition that The Lullaby Trust works tirelessly to combat.

Maria shared her motivation with Rochdale Online News: "I lost my son Cole in 2014 to what they class as ‘sudden infant death’.

He would have been 10 this year, so I have taken on 10 fundraising challenges in his memory. One of them is to sing 10 karaoke songs in public places."

Maria's challenges, described as "crazy activities", are spread across the year, each one serving as a tribute to Cole, who would have celebrated his 10th birthday this year.

One of the challenges is to sing 10 songs in a public place and another, completed last month was a 10 hour danceathon. Other challenges include 10 random acts of kindness, 10 pull ups and visiting 10 pubs in fancy dress.

In addition to honouring her son's memory, Maria's efforts aim to support The Lullaby Trust's vital work in raising awareness about SIDS, promoting the 'safer sleep' message, and providing emotional support to bereaved families.

At the time of publication, Maria’s fundraising efforts have already garnered an impressive £1,267 for The Lullaby Trust, with the community rallying behind her cause.

Maria expressed her gratitude, saying, "I would appreciate any donation, big or small."

The Lullaby Trust plays a crucial role in reducing SIDS rates across the UK, and with the help of dedicated fundraisers like Maria, they can continue their life-saving work and offer support to families during their most challenging times.

For those who wish to support Maria in her mission, further information on her challenges and how to donate can be found through the provided link.

Every contribution brings her one step closer to reaching her goal, ensuring that Cole’s memory lives on through the positive impact of The Lullaby Trust’s work.
