Colour run raises cash for high school minibus

Date published: 28 July 2024

Paint-covered pupils filled the streets of Whitworth after the high school organised a fundraising colour run to help fund a minibus.

Around 50 students from each year group at Whitworth Community High School were sponsored to be covered in paint while completing a series of tricky obstacles.

A team of 15 students have been tasked with coordinating fundraisers to secure a new minibus for school.

Sophie Ainscow, 15, and Theo Hanson, 14, are two members of the team and also took part and helped in the organisation of the colour run.

Sophie said: “The first colour run was for Years 9 and 10 and we took part in throwing the colour at students in my year group.

“The second one was for Years 7 and 8 and I was at the top of the field on the microphone telling people where they needed to go.

“It was really fun, everyone had a great time and everyone got covered in colour.”

Theo took part in the first race running with his friends and then in the second run he got to throw paint all over people.

He said: “Lots of students took part and we also had lots of teachers too and members of the pastoral team.”

The event raised £3,575 taking the students’ total up to £7k so far – with a goal of £12,000.

Sophie said: “We have had bake sales and we invited students into school to watch England’s Euro match against Slovenia, which ended as a draw. I spent hours packing 200 sweet packs to sell on the night.

“We will also be having further bake sales and in December we will be having a movie night with a Christmas film, in pyjamas.”
