Businesses rally to support charity ball raising funds for cancer charities

Date published: 20 July 2024

Organisations in the region are coming together to support a young man raising vital funds for two charities that provided invaluable support during his battle with cancer for the second time.

Hamish Graham, from Littleborough, was first diagnosed with a rare brain tumour at the age of seven. Amidst the pandemic in May 2020, he received another devastating diagnosis of leukaemia at the age of 23.

On 28 September, Hamish’s MARVELous Night Out will be held at The Edwardian Hotel in Manchester to raise money for The Teenage Cancer Trust and The Christie Teenage and Young Adult Unit.

Among the North West companies supporting the event are Stockport-based coach operator Belle Vue, Dukinfield-based Besseges Fire Protection, Fountains & Features in Oldham, and Independent Together in Failsworth, which provides supported living for young adults.

The event has also attracted backing from big-name businesses beyond the region, including Center Parcs, Seabourn Cruises, Radisson, Travel Counsellors, Selfridges, Boodles, and Scenic Cruises.

Blues in Business, a business network for Manchester City supporters, is also showing support for Hamish’s latest challenge. Despite Hamish being a Manchester United fan, the group has demonstrated that opposing communities can unite, supporting his fundraising mission from the beginning and recently raising £1,200 at one lunch alone.

Sarah Graham, Hamish’s mother, who is organising the event to thank the charities for their unwavering care, said: “The thought of anyone having to go through a cancer diagnosis and the treatment that comes with it without the support of these services is unimaginable.

“Unfortunately, we can’t change a diagnosis, but we can help to ensure that support is available to every single young person battling similar circumstances.

“Hamish’s MARVELous Night Out is our biggest fundraising mission yet. Hamish has already raised over £38,000 for charity, and we hope that this event will propel that total much higher.

“We’re extremely grateful for the support of all those involved. The community has really come together, and the support from Manchester City supporters shows that there is no rivalry when it comes to helping worthy causes.”

Hosted by Hits Radio presenter Mike Toolan, the evening will feature a live band, a DJ set, a silent auction with 'money can’t buy' prizes, a drinks reception, a raffle, and more. Hamish’s MARVELous Night Out will also highlight his two favourite things – films and football.

Businesses wanting to support the evening can donate a raffle or auction prize, sponsor a table, or purchase tickets here: https://hamishschallenge.co.uk/
