Sign up to Springhill Hospice's new scenic 3 Reservoir Ramble

Date published: 29 July 2023

Springhill Hospice is offering people the chance to honour lost loved ones and sign up to their new scenic new walking challenge, The 3 Reservoir Ramble.

The Reservoir Ramble replaces the popular September Walk to Remember with a fully marshalled 11.5km route. Starting at The Oxford, Whitworth Road, making its way past three picturesque reservoirs in Rochdale.

Talking place on Saturday 23 September, walkers can take in Hamer Pasture, Brown House Wham and Watergrove reservoirs before returning back to The Oxford for the finish line, to receive their certificate and some well-earned refreshments.

It’s a ramble, not a race, so people are encouraged to go at their own pace, and the challenge is open to all abilities, although some of the route may not be suitable for strollers or wheelchairs.

Last year, the hospice was joined by almost 200 supporters for the Walk to Remember, which saw families, friends and strangers join together to honour someone special to them, or just to support the hospice in raising vital funds.

Springhill supporter Joanne Turner takes part in Springhill Hospice walks annually; she said: “I have supported Springhill Hospice for a number of years, fundraising through various events all of which have been thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding. I feel Springhill is a big part of the community and we are so lucky to have it here in Rochdale. It helps so many people of all cultures and backgrounds.”

Jo Ali, Springhill’s Community Engagement Officer, commented: “This is a brand new, entirely off-road route which we hope our regular annual walkers will love.

“We also hope the route, through beautiful countryside, will attract new walkers keen to explore some of the best scenic nature that we have in the Rochdale borough. The area that will be covered by walkers includes Healey Stone Circle, and a special memorial garden ideal for a moment of reflection and remembrance. We are also delighted that our friends at The Oxford are allowing us use of their car park and facilities for before and after the event, too.“

Registration for Springhill’s 3 Reservoir Ramble is just £15, which includes refreshments, a certificate and event T-shirt, sponsored by Rochdale Training, which can be personalised.
