Whitworth AMDS has won two regional awards at this year's ACT awards
Whitworth Amateur Musical & Dramatic Society has bagged two regional awards for their Dick Whittington show at this year's Association of Community Theatre (ACT) awards. The ACT recognised local actor Martin Kelly as “Best evil character” for his role as King Rat, and the overall company as “Best Panto Ensemble”.
“I’m over the moon to win this year,” said Martin, “but it’s the overall recognition to the society that’s important here. Until you’ve done a panto like this you will never understand how many hours go into rehearsals, costume, set design, lighting and sound. So I’m taking one for the team here!”
Good Fairy Alison Hasler accepted the award for best ensemble on behalf of the society. She said “I love WAMDS Panto. Everyone involved throws everything into making the audience experience joyful and fun. This award recognises all that work. Onwards and upwards!”
WAMDS are currently putting together their 2024 panto “Puss in Boots”. For details of this and other WAMDS events visit www.TicketSource.co.uk/wamds
