Middleton volunteer marks 20 years at town's RSPCA charity shop

Date published: 06 July 2023

A volunteer from Middleton has marked 20 years at the town’s RSPCA charity shop.

Neil Kay, 52, reached the milestone on 4 July, and volunteers at the shop most days from 9am to 2pm.

He began volunteering at the shop, which supports the Rochdale & District branch of the RSPCA, when signing on with the local Job Centre.

Shop manager Lisa Brennan says the shop “would be lost without him.”

She said: “Neil knows the ins and outs of everything. He organises all the books and CDs and bric-a-brac and also spends time on the till. He’s got a colour-coded system for things to show how many weeks they’ve been on the shelf.

“He gets on with everyone and he’s such a hard worker. We really appreciate everything he’d done.”

Neil received a £20 Amazon voucher, cakes and chocolate as a ‘thank you’ from the RSPCA.
