Two police officers have been injured after a pickup truck they were chasing rammed into them off Whitworth Road on Tuesday evening (27 June).

The officers' car had been in pursuit of white Ford Ranger which was acting suspiciously, which then reversed forcefully into the police car, causing the airbags to deploy.

Police believe the truck was travelling on false plates and are now looking for witnesses to trace the vehicle responsible.

Neighbourhood Inspector Meena Yasin at Rochdale said: "We are looking for a whiteFord Ranger that has damage to the rear. We believe that the vehicle was travelling on false plates.

"We are keen to hear from anyone who has seen the vehicle, who may have witnessed the incident last night or anyone who has any CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage focusing on Whitworth Road in Rochdale at the time.

"This vehicle purposefully and forcefully rammed into the police officers vehicle and moved it backwards by approximately 20 metres, causing the airbags in the vehicle to go off. Both officers had to attend hospital to receive treatment for their injuries.

"If you can help, please contact 101 and quote log number 003149-27062023. Alternatively, information can be passed to the independent charity - Crimestoppers - anonymously on 0800 555 111."
