‘Clothes and stories’ swap for women at Touchstones this weekend

Date published: 29 June 2023

A women’s only ‘clothes and stories’ swap will take place at Touchstones on Saturday (1 July).

Run by Theatre in Flow and the Women’s Supper Club, the fashion swap is a chance to refresh your wardrobe in an eco-friendly way and to share the stories of your fashion triumphs and disasters.

The fashion industry accounts for about 8-10% of global carbon emissions, and nearly 20% of wastewater, so  promoting the swapping and reuse of clothes is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint and slow climate change.

There will also be games, quizzes and a catwalk.

Project worker Jenny Hey said: “Many of the women who participate in our sessions are living with multiple unmet needs – for example due to domestic violence, mental illness and experiencing poverty. This event provides new clothing, a meal and time for creative and personal expression by way of the story element of the event.

“We’d love to receive donations of women’s and children’s clothes in good condition (minor imperfections are OK). We would also gratefully receive any period products or personal hygiene supplies. If you are a woman who would like to volunteer, we would love to hear from you.

“This is a great opportunity to take part in a positive, local, eco-friendly activity while alleviating poverty, supporting women in need and promoting wellbeing.

Theatre in Flow runs the Clothes and Stories Swap on a quarterly basis, collecting donations of clothes, shoes and accessories over each quarter.
