The charity walk is taking place at Hollingworth Lake
Service users, volunteers, staff and supporters of homelessness charity Petrus Community are preparing to complete their annual sponsored walk on 28 June to raise funds for their garden entry at the RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park in July.
The walk was started by Petrus service users, who wanted to be able to play their part in the fundraising journey and has since become an annual fixture in the run up to the event.
As well as collecting sponsorship from friends and family, they are asking the local community to support them with donations to their online giving page.
Service user Nathan, who helped establish the walk said: “We look forward to RHS Tatton Park every year! It’s our chance to show everyone what we can do and all the good that comes from gardening at our community allotment at PIER. We get so much out of the event, so we wanted to help Petrus get us there. Every donation helps!”
2023 marks Petrus’ fourth year taking part in RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park. Each year, they create a garden, co-designed with service users, volunteers and staff to break down stereotypes around people who have experienced homelessness, and showcase the impact of their social prescribing projects.
This year’s garden, ‘The Empowerment Garden,’ will be in RHS’s new Terraced Garden category and will highlight how community food-growing projects can empower people and communities.
The team are hoping that this is the year that they will secure a gold medal for their entry, having previously secured bronze, silver and silver gilt medals, as well as scooping the highly acclaimed People’s Choice Award in 2019, 2021 and 2022.
