Littleborough boxing champ running 100 miles for Mencap charity whilst sitting GCSEs

Date published: 17 June 2023

North West boxing champion Leevan Fong is running 100 miles in the space of a week to raise money for a learning disability charity – all whilst sitting his GCSEs.

Leevan is running four full marathons – 26.2-miles – to raise money for Mencap during Learning Disability Week (19-25 June), during which he will celebrate his 16th birthday

Mencap is a UK charity which supports people with a learning disability as well as their families and carers. It fights for equal rights, as well as campaigning for better opportunities whilst challenging people’s attitudes and prejudice.

Leevan, who boxes out of Littleborough ABC, typically raises money for Mencap with his boxing matches, but due to a recent hand injury has been unable to fight.

Undeterred, Leevan decided to train hard and use the opportunity to raise funds for the charity.

The fifteen-year-old St Cuthbert’s pupil set out on his first run on 15 June with just £14 of his £500 target raised – but has smashed this overnight with a current total of £575.

His sister, Laila-Lee, said: “To be able to fit in the time to fundraise and run four marathons is incredible, but that’s just Leevan’s personality. He’s amazing.

“Every donation counts. Mencap does amazing work for children and people with learning disabilities and their work is largely based on donations and fundraising.”
