Can you be the one these pets are looking for? Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary appeals for adopters for longer-term residents

Date published: 17 June 2023

Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary is appealing to anyone looking for a pet to come and look around as they are currently inundated with dogs, cats and kittens.

They are especially hoping to find a perfect home for some of their longer-term canine residents who have been at the sanctuary for a while.

German Shepherd dogs Misty and Beau have been at the sanctuary since February, having come in when their own died.

“Misty is around 10 years old and Beau around eight years old and we think they are mother and son,” said sanctuary manager Karen Weed.

"Sadly, their human passed away, so we don’t know much about them, but from being with us we know they are very loving and cheeky!”

Greyhound Bowie, who has different coloured eyes, was found tied up at the Bleakholt gates – with his microchip not working.

“The staff have spent time with Bowie assessing him and he is a friendly, active boy who loves cuddles. He is gorgeous.”

Rosie is an Akita Cross, aged four, and she has been at Bleakholt for a while with the staff desperate to find her a forever home.

“She is such a beautiful, friendly dog who loves attention and adventures,” said Karen.

It’s now kitten season and Bleakholt is making room for soon-to-be mothers and looking after the older cats in their care.

They need to find a home for Luna Celeste who was found as a stray.

“Luna is a lovely girl, but she is stressed in the kennels and refusing to eat so we need to find her either a permanent or a foster home. We are keen to do this as soon as possible so would be grateful if anyone could help.”

Terry

Terry is one of a litter of kittens who were abandoned in a holdall in Haslingden with their mum, who sadly died.

Terry and his siblings will soon be available for rehoming but Bleakholt has a host of cats - especially black cats - now available for adoption.

Karen added: “Terry is not yet available for adoption but all the cats and kittens now ready for a home are on our website.”
