Heywood and Rochdale Lions raise £228 for Springhill Hospice

The Heywood and Rochdale Lions clubs have raised over £200 for Springhill Hospice.

The community groups, which help others and support local good causes, held an information stall at Middleton Shopping Centre with the aim of raising awareness of diabetes and Lions’ own free ‘message in a bottle’ initiative, which helps emergency services in identifying an individual’s allergies, needs or special medication.

An individual’s personal and medical details are stored in a distinctive green bottle in the fridge, with accompanying stickers for the fridge door and inside their home’s front door.

In total, £228 was raised by Middleton shoppers, with Heywood Lions president John Sagar presenting the hospice with a cheque.

Lions Clubs are groups of volunteers who join together to give their valuable time and effort to improving their communities, and the world.

Having begun in 1917, there are 48,000 Lions Clubs worldwide across more than 200 countries. There are three in the borough: Heywood, Littleborough and Rochdale.

Lions Clubs are always looking for new club members to continue their community work.
