Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Integrated Care Partnership has appointed Dr Salman Shahid to the new associate medical director post.

Dr Shahid, who is clinical lead and senior business partner at Rochdale Road Medical Centre in Middleton, will assist in leading the development and transformation of health and care services across the Rochdale borough, providing leadership to clinical leads and playing a key role in developing the clinical and care professional model in Rochdale.

He will provide a clinical interface with both Greater Manchester Integrated Care and the Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale (HMR) locality.

Dr Shahid will be a member of HMR Locality Board, HMR Primary Care Commissioning Committee, Locality Leadership Team and the NHS Greater Manchester Wider Leadership Team. His work will ensure that the clinical voice is heard within all decision making and that existing and emerging clinical and care professional leaders continue to be supported, ensuring HMR's work supports the health and wellbeing of the population, working across organisational boundaries, ensuring collaborative working across commissioners and providers.

Dr Salman Shahid said: “I am excited to represent HMR locality in Greater Manchester (GM) as associate medical director. I am looking forward to working collaboratively with local and GM system leadership to ensure the needs of Rochdale borough residents and communities are met.

"It is my desire to have better integration of health and social care services at place and at neighbourhood level. This could be achieved by working closely with primary care, secondary care, public health, social care providers and wider community and voluntary sector providers," he added.

Dr Shahid trained in hospital medicine, working as medical registrar in the north west of England, later moving to Oxford to study an MSc in health and social care management. He started his primary care journey in 2009 and has been working as GP partner in Middleton since 2013. He is also a foundation programme clinical supervisor at North West Deanery and a medical student supervisor and OSCE examiner at Manchester University.

Dr Shahid has served as clinical director of Middleton Primary Care network (PCN) and has led a team of social prescribing link workers to enable better integrated health and social care pathways. He is passionate about pioneering newer ways of working together, to address modern age healthcare challenges particularly long term physical and mental health conditions.

A spokesperson from HMR said: "We are delighted to welcome Dr Shahid to the team. His knowledge, experience and leaderhip will take the work of Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Integrated Care Partnerhsip to another level."
