Rochdale: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To maintain essential deliveries to building works at Kingsway Park High School.

Expected start and finish: Monday 2 January 2023 – Thursday 31 August 2023.
Restriction and location:
Temporary prohibition of parking on Stiups Lane at the following points:

  • The west side from its junction with Turfhill Road for a distance of 50 metres in a north easterly direction
  • The east side, from a point 50 metres from its junction with Turfhill Road for a distance of 20 metres in a north easterly direction

Alternative route: Not applicable.

Restriction and location: Temporary closure of James Kearns Avenue, from its junction with John Milne Avenue for a distance of 20 metres in a northerly direction.

Expected start and finish: Saturday 27 May 2023 - Sunday 4 June 2023.
Restriction and location: Prohibition of vehicles from proceeding along Durban Street from its junction with Manchester Road for a distance of 47 metres in a southwesterly direction.
Alternative route:

  • The alternative route for vehicles exiting Durban Street in a northeasterly direction will be Hannover Street, Heywood Road, Partington Street and Manchester Road.
  • The alternative route for vehicles entering Durban Street in a southwesterly direction will be Heywood Road and Hannover Street.

Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Chesham Avenue, from a point 156 metres of its junction with Manchester Road for a distance of 30 metres in a westerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for traffic will be Manchester Road, Thornham New Road and Chatburn Avenue.

  • Temporary prohibition of waiting at any time on Milnrow Road, on the north side of its junction with Pine Street to a point 31 metres in an easterly direction.

  • The alternative route for High Street will be Toad Lane and Waterhouse Street.
  • The alternative route for Redcross Street will be High Street, Toad Lane, Waterhouse Street, Redcross Street, Hope Street and Oldmill Street.

Restriction and location: Temporarily prohibit vehicles from travelling along The Strand from its junction with Mornington Road to a point 107 metres in a westerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for traffic will be Mornington Road, Balderstone Road and The Strand.

Reason: To allow the safe delivery of works required for a new housing development.

Expected start and finish: Monday 22 August 2022 – Friday 26 January 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Rothay Drive, from its junction with Bonscale Crescent for its entire length.
Alternative route: There is no alternative route for vehicles.

Heywood: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Heywood
Reason: To install new traffic calming measures and work on the pavements.

Expected start and finish: Monday 3 April 2023 - Friday 16 June 2023.
Restriction and location:

  • Introduce 1-way working in a southeasterly direction along Heap Brow from its junction with Bury New Road to its junction with Bury Old Road. Vehicles won't be able to travel in a northwesterly direction from its junction with Bury Old Road to its junction with Bury New Road.
  • Prohibition of vehicles turning right from Bury Old Road onto Heap Brow.
  • Prohibition of vehicles turning left from St Georges Mount onto Heap Brow.

Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles travelling along Moss Hall Road in a northeasterly direction wishing to continue onto Heap Brow is Bury Old Road and Bury New Road.

Reason: To repair a leaking gas main in the road.

Expected start and finish: Tuesday 16 May 2023 – Tuesday 6 June 2023 or until works are complete, whichever is sooner.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Heap Brow, from its junction with Bury New Road to its junction with Bury Old Road.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles is Bury New Road and Bury Old Road.

Reason: To hold the Heywood 1940s Day event and parade.

Expected start and finish:

  • The closure of Hill Street will be operative from 7am – 6pm, Saturday 17 June 2023.
  • The closure of all other streets for the parade will be operative from 12.30pm – 3pm, Saturday 17 June 2023.
  • The prohibition of waiting at any time will be operative from 6am – 6pm, Saturday 17 June 2023.

  • Tower Street, from its junction with School Street to its junction with St James Street
  • St James Street, for its entire length
  • Bridge Street, from its junction with St James Street to its junction with Dawson Street and Market Street

  • Bamford Road, from its junction with Dawson Street to its junction with Market Place
  • Market Place, for its entire length
  • L/Cpl Stephen Shaw MC Way, for its entire length
  • Hartley Street, for its entire length
  • York Street, from its junction with Hartley Street to its junction with Market Place
  • Market Street, from its junction with Market Place to its junction with Bridge Street
  • Hill Street, from its junction with Fox Street to its junction with Market Street
  • Waiting will also be prohibited at any time on Hill Street, from its junction with Fox Street to its junction with Market Street.

Alternative route:
The alternative routes for vehicles for the Hill Street closure are as follows:

  • Clockwise: Fox Street, Brunswick Street, Tower Street, St James Street, Bridge Street, Dawson Street, Bamford Road and Market Street.
  • Anti-clockwise: Fox Street, Hind Hill Street, Market Place and Market Street.
  • There is no alternative route necessary for the parade due to its nature and duration.

Reason: To facilitate access for heavy equipment and machinery.

Expected start and finish: Monday 10 April 2023 – Tuesday 10 October 2023.

Prohibition of waiting for vehicles at any time along:

  • Riverstone Bridge, both sides for its entire length.
  • Railway Street, both sides from its junction with Peel Street for the remainder of its length in a south westerly direction.

Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles is Smithy Bridge Road, Milnrow Road (Littleborough), Wildhouse Lane, Kiln Lane, Bridge Street, Rochdale Road, Milnrow Road (Rochdale), Albert Royds Street, Halifax Road (A58), and Smithy Bridge Road.

Reason: To hold the Littleborough Food and Drink Festival 2023.

Expected start and finish:

  • The prohibition of vehicles and one-way working orders will be operative from 8am – 6pm, Saturday 10 June 2023.
  • The prohibition of waiting order will be operative from 6am – 6pm, Saturday 10 June 2023.

Restriction and location:
Temporary closure of the following roads:

  • Hare Hill Road, from its junction with Church Street to its junction with Greenwood Street, and from its junction with Sale Street to its junction with Greenwood Street.
  • Victoria Street, from its junction with Lodge Street to its junction with Wellington Street.

Temporary prohibition of waiting at any time along the following roads:

  • Hare Hill Road, from its junction with Church Street to its junction with Sale Street.
  • Victoria Street, from its junction with Lodge Street to its junction with Wellington Street.

Alternative route:

  • The alternative route for Hare Hill Road will be Church Street, Featherstall Road, Whitelees Road and Hare Hill Road.
  • Any other alternative routes available will be signed on street when the closures are in operation.

Reason: To hold the Milnrow and Newhey Carnival.

Expected start and finish

  • Closures of the roads to vehicles will be operative from 12.30pm – 2.30pm on Saturday 17 June 2023.

Restriction and location:
The following roads will be temporarily closed to vehicles:

  • Haugh Lane, for its entire length
  • Railway Street, for its entire length
  • Huddersfield Road, from its junction with Haugh Lane to its junction with Newhey Road and Shaw Road
  • Newhey Road, for its entire length
  • Dale Street, for its entire length
  • Station Road, for its entire length
  • Equitable Street, for its entire length
  • Harbour Lane North, for its entire length
  • Bridge Street, from its junction with Harbour Lane North to its junction with Dale Street

Waiting will be temporarily prohibited at any time along the following roads:

  • Haugh Lane, for its entire length
  • Huddersfield Road, both sides from its junction with Haugh Lane to its junction with Peppermint Close
  • Newhey Road, the westerly side from the M62 bridge to its junction with New Street

Alternative route: Due to the nature and duration of the event it is not necessary for alternative routes to be in place.
