‘Fairy door’ in Denehurst Park stolen

A ‘fairy door’ as part of a new small children’s project in Denehurst Park has been stolen.

The Friends of Denehurst Park have a joint project with Supertots Nursery on Edenfield Road, developing a fairy glen in Denehurst Park near the park’s stone fairy seats.

The fairy glen was to have been the first step in a summer of activities for small children, which includes painting pictures and planting flowers to decorate the area.

Two members of the Friends group installed the first two wooden doors on Friday (26 May), fixing them beside the trees in readiness for the children to come along and paint them.

The doors had been beautifully crafted by one of the Friends with hinges and frames so they opened and closed. The plan was to create several more numbered doors so that children could search for them and learn their numbers at the same time.

The first two doors were still in place on Saturday morning, but by 4pm there was only one small piece of wood and some plastic remaining.

A spokesperson for the Friends of Denehurst Park said: “This has been reported to Greater Manchester Police and it is hoped that cameras in the park will detect who has taken them.

“If you saw anything suspicious on the afternoon of Saturday 27 May in Denehurst Park, please report it to the police, with the crime number CRI/06PP/0013295/23.”

Greater Manchester Police said there have been no arrests and enquiries are ongoing at this stage.
