Counterfeit clothing seized by Rochdale trading standards given to homeless

Date published: 22 May 2023

Counterfeit clothing seized by Rochdale trading standards has been given a new purpose and redistributed to homeless people across the borough.

Trading standards has teamed up with Lighthouse Security to redistribute the items from recent seizures.

All the clothing has had the false branding removed, and the Lighthouse logo has been applied. The items have been passed to Rochdale Sanctuary Trust, which works with homeless people and homeless-related poverty and emergency issues.

The first delivery took place on Friday (19 May) and future deliveries will include blankets and footwear. Lighthouse also hopes to use the material from clothing that cannot be debranded to make teddy bears for displaced children.

A spokesperson for the council said: “This is a fantastic way to repurpose items that have been used in criminal activity that would otherwise have been destroyed.”
