A local television worker has won a Royal Television Society North West award for his sound work on the BBC show, Sherwood and is in the running to win a BAFTA.

On Saturday 26 November, Mark Briscoe was presented with the award for Best Audio Post-Production at a glitzy awards ceremony at The Point, Emirates Old Trafford.

He was competing against other big TV shows like Brassic, Catching a Predator and Floodlights.

Mark, now 52, started his career when he was just 16, while attending Falinge High School, formerly known as Green Hill.

He said: “I started volunteering at ITV Manchester in my spare time and eventually, I’d been around for that long working for free, that they eventually offered me a job.

“I fell in love with working on sound and one of the first things I did was mixing sound for the millennium episode of Cold feet and then it all just carried on from there.”

Since then, Mark has won various awards and has worked on TV shows such as Happy Valley, It’s A Sin, Prime Suspect and most recently, Sherwood.

He won his first RTS award back in 2018 for his work on ABC Murders and now is in the shortlist for being nominated for a BAFTA award.

Mark is currently working on Nolly, an upcoming ITV series which feature stars such as Helena Bonham and is written by Russell T Davies. He now works for an American company called Formosa which has studios in London and Manchester.

The RTS Awards are the gold standard of achievement in the television community.
