Man of Rochdale event raises record funds for Springhill Hospice

Date published: 05 December 2022

This year’s Man of Rochdale event has raised a new record for Springhill Hospice.

The 28th annual luncheon – held at Rochdale Golf Club on 25 November – raised a staggering £25,159 – a new record and an unbelievably generous total.

The event saw the most dedicated and inspiring men from Rochdale celebrated for their achievements and hard work, with over 200 men in attendance.

This year’s worthy winner was Dave Richardson, who is a lifelong supporter and advocate of so many charitable causes, and who was presented with the award by Councillor James Gartside.

A further four men were also shortlisted for the award thanks to their incredible achievements; Michael Bamford, Tony Nugent, Wesley Dowd and Roy Down.

Kieren McDonnell, chair of the Man of Rochdale committee, and one of Springhill Hospice’s trustees, said: “It costs over £14,000 a day to run Springhill Hospice and provide patient care, and more than half of that funding needs to come from support within the local community.

“It’s gentlemen like myself and the others that attend the Man of Rochdale event who were fortunate enough to be in a position to assist with that vital support last week – now is the time that we all need to dig deep and help out this pillar of our community.!

The event was sponsored by Jackson Jackson and Sons; the entertainment was sponsored by Performance Doorset Solutions; the raffle by Recruitment Solutions, Carlsberg Marston Brewery sponsored the welcome drinks and former footballer, Micky Quinn, was the guest speaker.
