Calling all year 11's - Rochdale AFC Sports College open day

Date published: 24 November 2022

Rochdale AFC Sports College is holding two open days in December for students looking to join in September 2023. For Year 11s and their parents and guardians, this is an opportunity to visit The Crown Oil Arena and view first hand the learning spaces for young people on the programme.

The sports college programme has been running for nine years, and is limited to 15 places per academic year to study a BTEC Level 3 national extended sport and football scholarship.

During the two-year course learners will play the beautiful game four days a week, with 10 hours of studying at the Crown Oil Arena.

The college offers an “Outstanding” rated education, complemented by a football programme in the unique environment of a professional football club. Studying at The Crown Oil Arena gives learners guaranteed pathways to university and USA football scholarships.

The learning programme has been devised by professional football coaches and teachers, which gives learners a unique insight into industry skills and experiences. Learners will be able to play in The EFL’s College Affiliated League (CEFA) against other professional football clubs.

Education and employability manager at Rochdale AFC Community Trust, Alex Harvie said : “We’re really excited to bring our prospective students and their families into our sports college to show off our outstanding facilities and learning spaces.

"As a teacher and professional football coach, I’ve taken time to revise our programme to ensure we are developing learning holistically: developing the whole person technically, tactically, physically, socially and psychologically. Coupled with our video analysis and reflective learning programme, we ensure 16-19 year olds who are passionate about football and want achieve and exceed their potential can do, working with our expert staff.”

The open days are being held on Saturday 3 December and Thursday 15 December. Book a place through the Rochdale AFC Community Trust web site: www.rochdaleafccommunity.org/sports-college
