White Ribbon Day to be marked by Rochdale Connections Trust

Date published: 19 November 2022

Rochdale Connections Trust (RCT) will be marking White Ribbon Day 2022 by sharing its commitment to helping to End Men’s Violence against Women.

White Ribbon Day takes place on Friday 25 November and is made up of 16 days of action. RCT is holding an array of activities across all 16 days of action to raise awareness of men’s violence against women and girls.

This includes podcasts, a football match, training sessions, tug o’ war and much, much more.

White Ribbon Day is a widely recognised global movement; in the UK, it is spearheaded by White Ribbon UK, the leading charity engaging men and boys to end violence against women and girls.

This year, RCT is holding various events with men, women and children to both support the campaign and to raise awareness about ending violence against women. RCT has also installed a largescale White Ribbon symbol on the front of the building which will be unveiled by local MP, Sir Tony Lloyd.

Jenny Miller, domestic abuse manager at RCT, said: “Society must challenge outdated male attitudes regarding how men and boys speak about and treat women and girls. RCT are wholly committed to making that change across Rochdale. The violence must stop.”

Anthea Sully, chief executive of White Ribbon UK, shared: “This year, White Ribbon Day is focusing on the attitudes and behaviours men and boys can adopt to move away from associations to violent and abusive behaviour.

“We are inviting you to wear a White Ribbon and make the White Ribbon Promise, never to use, excuse or remain silent about men’s violence against women. This year, White Ribbon Day falls on the same week as the launch of the FIFA men’s World Cup.

“There is never a better time for us to focus on the good that can come from unifying and supporting one common cause. #TheGoal does just that, it brings men and boys together to think about how they can make a positive difference to achieve equality and safety for women and girls.”

RCT are inviting local men to demonstrate their commitment by making the ‘White Ribbon’ promise “never to use, excuse or remain silent about men’s violence against women.”

They are also operating as the Rochdale location for people to purchase their white ribbon, all donations welcome: www.whiteribbon.org.uk/promise

The White Ribbon campaign provides a fantastic opportunity for colleagues, partners and supporters of RCT to stand up to men’s violence against women and girls. RCT is holding a bitesize training session at 12.30 on Monday 28 November for men to understand the significance of the White Ribbon campaign and to physically make the pledge. All pledges will be displayed at Number One Riverside.
