Rochdale’s Lantern Academy has been shortlisted for the Best Madrassah award in the 2022 British Beacon Mosque Awards.
Lantern Academy is a branch of the Golden Mosque which was founded in 1963 as the first mosque in Rochdale.
Based on Lower Sheriff Street, the academy is a supplementary school that teaches over 300 students from across the borough of Rochdale from primary to GCSE level in Quran recitation, Islamic studies, maths, English and much more.
Lantern Academy has been shortlisted alongside other mosques in Bradford, Liverpool, Slough and Southampton.
Founded by Faith Associates UK, the Beacon Mosque Awards were created in 2018 to highlight the pivotal role mosques and Islamic centres play in local communities and contributing to the UK’s social fabric.
The academy won ‘Best Youth Service’ in 2021, and was named the Best Madrassah in the UK 2020 at the same awards.
