Running the Therme Manchester Marathon for Petrus

Date published: 20 March 2022

Rochdale-based homelessness charity Petrus Service Lead, Liz Varey, and The Regenda Group’s Assistant Director of Business, Cate Manning, will take part in the Therme Manchester Marathon on 3 April to raise funds for Petrus.

Petrus, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, provides housing services and day-to-day support to people who are homeless or are at risk of homelessness. They provide supported accommodation, outreach services, support, advice and hot meals through their hub and social prescribing through their award-winning community allotment, Petrus PIER (Petrus Incredible Edible Rochdale).

As part of their 50th celebrations, Petrus is aiming to raise £50,000 to support the incredible work they do in our community.

Liz and Cate will run the marathon as a relay, with each completing 13.1 miles.

Liz has worked at Petrus for 16 years; she said: “Every day, I work with the most incredible people, from the staff at Petrus to those who use our services. We literally change lives, supporting people into safe places and working with them for as long as they need us. But we rely on donations. £100 provides a free daily breakfast for 55 people for a whole week. £20 provides a good quality sleeping bag and toiletries. Your donation will make a huge difference to the people we work with.”

Cate said: “When Liz asked me to run the marathon with her as a relay, I absolutely jumped at the chance. I’ve worked with Petrus for a number of years as part of my role within The Regenda Group and I’m so excited to support them again. Even a small amount of money can make a big difference.”
