World Book Day celebrated at Sandbrook Community Primary School

Date published: 11 March 2022

Three students at Sandbrook Primary School will receive a personally signed copy of an author’s book after winning a competition at school for World Book Day (3 March).

Children were invited to create a ‘story jar’ to showcase their favourite book, using certain items, quotes or clues from the tale.

Ayden in Year One, Jojo in Year Four and Alinane in Year Six all won the competition and will receive a signed copy of Tom Gauld's The Little Wooden Robot and the Log Princess.

The modern fairy tale about sibling love tells the epic adventure of the little wooden robot when his sister, the log princess goes missing. He encounters goblins, magic puddings, a mushroom queen and a very intimidating wood pile as he seeks to bring his sister home.

To mark World Book Day, Sandbrook Community Primary School took part in all the fun and excitement with children and staff alike dressing up as a character from their favourite book.

All had a fantastic day and the children loved seeing the 7ft titular character from Shark in the Park – AKA assistant headteacher Mrs Korab – wandering around school.

Ms McGreevy, teacher and Reading for Pleasure Lead, said “Congratulations to our wonderful World Book Day story competition winners, Ayden, Jojo and Alinane.

“They will all receive a personally signed copy of The Little Wooden Robot and the Log Princess. A massive thanks to Tom for supporting this initiative and our budding authors here at Sandbrook.”
