A blue BMW 320 was later recovered in the Heywood area and a 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has since been released under investigation.

"We are continuing our enquiries and hopeful that there were witnesses who may have information about the collision that could prove a great help with our investigation.

"We are particularly keen to speak to people who may have dash-cam or CCTV footage in the vicinity of Hollin Lane in the lead up or directly after the incident."
