Fundraiser set up for man who has received critical injuries in Middleton hit and run

Date published: 02 November 2021

A crowdfunding appeal has been set up to support the dog-walker who has been left fighting for his life after a hit and run collision in Middleton.

The man, 35, was walking his dog on Hollin Lane shortly before 9.15pm on Sunday (31 October) when he was hit by a blue BMW 320, which failed to remain at the scene.

An online fundraiser claims the man, whose name is given as just ‘Patrick’, will be left with life-changing injuries as a result of the collision.

The fundraiser notes that his dog, Buddy, has also been injured and faces a hefty vets’ bill.

The organiser wrote: “Both are critical and Buddy’s vet bill is currently £1,000 and rising. He has two broken back legs and a snapped tail. His daddy will need ongoing care due to his severe injuries.

“Please, please if you can help, just 50p if you can, let’s raise funds for this family. Patrick’s partner has enough to worry about without a huge vet bill too. Let’s pray they both make it.”

So far, £1,139 has been raised of a £5,000 goal to cover the vet bills and Patrick’s care.

Patrick remains in hospital in a critical condition whilst Buddy faces a tail amputation and possibly a permanent catheter.

A blue BMW 320 was later recovered in the Heywood area and a 38-year-old man arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Anyone who was in the area at the time and may have dash cam footage or witnessed the incident is asked to contact police as soon as possible.

Anyone with information should contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741, quoting incident number 3441 of 31/10/21.

Reports can also be made anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Donations to the fundraiser can be made via GoFundMe.
