National Citizen Service (NCS) students at Rochdale AFC's Dale in the Community Trust raised money for charity in November by running or walking 5k every day for a week.
Tasked with completing a social action project, the young participants on the NCS course set up a fundraising page and raised a total of £115 for Rochdale-based charity One Nation.
One Nation is a UK-based humanitarian charity which supports local, national, and international projects, from providing hot food and support for the homeless, to providing emergency aid, clean water, food, clothes and shelters in devastated countries around the world.
During lockdown, One Nation volunteers from the Rochdale branch delivered hot food to the Accident & Emergency department at The Royal Oldham Hospital.
The local branch of the humanitarian charity also collected and delivered items, along with various other donations from the community, to NHS staff at The Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

Under normal circumstances, the NCS students would have been asked to volunteer 30 hours of their time in the local community however due to the programme taking place during England’s second lockdown, the teenagers had to work remotely and on their own, so they came up with the idea of raising funds for charity.
Mojahid Ali, One Nation Rochdale Branch Manager, said: “Thank you to everyone for taking part in this amazing cause. We can only do the work we do with the help and support of special individuals like yourselves. We look forward to working with you again.”
Established in 2009, National Citizen Service (NCS) is a voluntary and social programme for 15-17-year olds in England and Northern Ireland. It provides the opportunity for young people to overcome their fears, make new friends, and gain new skills.
