Matthew Hankinson takes first place at ISA North of England Athletics Finals

The senior athletics team from Beech House School took part in the Independent Schools Association (ISA) North of England Athletics Finals at Manchester SportCity on 14 May.

Matthew Hankinson won the the Javelin event and he will now compete in the national finals in Birmingham on 19 June.

Fifteen schools attended the event and participated in various track and field events throughout the day.

Kevin Sartain, Principal, Beech House School said: “A huge congratulations to our senior athletics team who performed well at this year’s ISA North of England athletics finals held in Manchester.

“Especially well done to Matthew Hankinson on winning the Javelin.”

The following Beech House pupils reached the last eight in their events:

  • Nicole Healey: Long Jump – 8th
  • Haris Kayani: 400m – 8th
  • Matthew Hankinson: Javelin – 1st
  • Shahrukh Khan: Triple Jump – 3rd
  • Zak Gorton-Rigg: Shot put – 6th
  • Aaron Waddington: Javelin – 2nd
  • Sophie Wilkinson: Long jump – 7th
  • Jawad Ali: Discus – 5th
  • Abdul Rahman-Bygrave: Triple Jump – 8th

The overall positions were:

  • Year 7 boys: 11th
  • Year 8/9 boys: 13th
  • Year 8/9 girls: 15th
  • Year 10 boys: 10th
  • Year 10 girls: 14th
