Firefighters get ready for one of the busiest nights of the year

Date published: 05 November 2016

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) are ready for one of the busiest fire and rescue nights in Europe today, Saturday 5 November, Bonfire Night.

Chairman of Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Authority, Councillor David Acton, said: “Thousands of people will be attending organised events, but many more will be having their own fires and displays.

“I would urge everyone to watch our videos on the Fireworks Code and make sure they know where their children are and what they’re doing on Bonfire Night.

“Some firefighters will leave the station at the start of their shift and they won’t make it back for many hours as they attend nuisance fires one after the other.

“People need to understand our crew can’t be in two places at once – nuisance fires waste our time and slow us down when we’re trying to get life threatening incidents like fires, RTCs and cardiac arrests.

“We’d like to wish everyone in Greater Manchester a very safe and happy Bonfire Night.”
