Siddal Moor’s Open Evening - 26th September 2019

These are exciting times for Siddal Moor Sports College as they move towards a new phase in the school’s history.

Last year the school celebrated its 50th anniversary and reflected on the changes that have taken place over half a century. This year, plans are already well underway for the school to become an academy as part of a multi-academy trust with Hollingworth Academy in Milnrow. The two schools have been working together since January 2018 and are expecting to achieve a conversion sometime during the Autumn term of 2019.

This will allow even greater collaboration and build upon the school improvement work, which is already underway.

Further to this, the school is about to have an additional teaching block constructed in order to accommodate increased numbers of students, which are expected in the next few years. This work will include six new classrooms and a science laboratory, as well as some office space and a new toilet block.

It will involve an extension to the existing dining facilities, a refurbishment and enlargement of the PE changing rooms and the widening of a corridor to the dining room.

The school’s ethos is based around its three core values of Aspiration, Integrity and Respect and these values are at the very heart of everything they do.

Students are expected to come to school ready to learn and to aspire to achieve the best possible outcomes they are capable of. Siddal Moor wants students to be honest and sensitive to the feelings of others, and to be supportive of each other.

The school fosters a strong belief that all involved within the community of Siddal Moor should demonstrate respect for others, the community and the environment by their deeds and actions.

The school is proud of its reputation for the high quality of support offered to its students. This strong pastoral tradition was seen as a strength by Ofsted. 

The school offers a broad and balanced curriculum aimed at meeting the needs of all its students. 

Outside of the curriculum, the school offers a wide range of opportunities for students to get involved in. This includes sports teams and clubs, performing arts activities and many trips and visits, including residential and overseas opportunities. 

Many talented students have achieved recognition, both locally and nationally for their involvement in sport and performing arts; their achievements are regularly celebrated by the school.

Siddal Moor has also achieved the Gold Standard in Careers Education Information Advice and Guidance, (CEIAG), in recognition of the first-class support offered to students in this area.

You can see the school in action at the open evening, which takes place Thursday 26th September between 6pm and 8pm. It’s a great opportunity to see the school’s excellent facilities, meet staff and students and hear talks from Mr Simon White, Head of School.
