Business awards launched

Date published: 04 May 2013

The cream of Rochdale’s business talent will be recognised in an annual awards ceremony in November after its launch last week.

Businessmen and women from across the borough gathered at Madison’s restaurant to kick off the third instalment of the Rochdale Business Awards.

Established in 2011, the Rochdale Business Awards celebrate the achievements of businesses and business people within the borough.

The awards ceremony is organised by the local business community and this year will take place at Rochdale Town Hall on Friday 8 November.

Dave Harris, of sponsors Target Fire, spoke about the importance of the event and the benefits of being a sponsor.

Rochdale Business Woman of the Year 2012 Rebecca Schofield also spoke, discussing the impact winning had on her business, Walkright Podiatry.

The lunch also saw sponsorship opportunities offered out and Carol Hopkins, Business Manager for Rochdale Council, said it was successful.

“By the end of the lunch we only had the flowers and the entertainment still left,” she explained.

“The Chairman of the Steering Group, Steve Lowe, presented last year’s category sponsors with a framed photo from the awards evening as a small thank you for their continued support.”

Businesses are now encouraged to nominate themselves online in categories including Business of the Year, with separate awards for those with turnover under £1 million; between £1 million and £5 million; and more than £5 million.

Other awards categories include Start-up Business of the Year, Apprentice Employer of the Year, Environmental Award and Apprentice Employer of the Year.

Individuals can put their names forward for Businessman of the Year and Businesswoman of the Year.
