The Chamber's Transport and Infrastructure Committee is meeting on Friday (10 August) to discuss several key items.
Following on from the success of the Northern Hub campaign, the Chamber has engaged with the Fair Tax on Flying campaign www.afairtaxonflying.org to urge the Government to undertake an independent review into the impact of the high levels of Air Passenger Duty paid in the UK.
This campaign forms part of a wider position statement being finalised on aviation, asking for a clear national strategy that addresses capacity issues. There will also be presentations from the Highways Agency on the strategic road network and Transport for Greater Manchester on the local and major roads.
Members’ views have been gathered on pinchpoints on the road network for inclusion into a roads statement to inform the Government approach to roads post 2015.
Updates on rail include the progress being made on High Speed Rail, and the next phase of local rail lobbying for additional platforms at Salford Central station.
