Date published: 31 July 2012

Rochdale enjoyed a great night of success at the Asian Lite CelebrAsian and Business Awards 2012 event held at the Sheridan in Manchester.

Over 500 guests attended, including Mayor of Rochdale Councillor James Gartside, and Mayoress, Councillor Jane Gartside, Lord Mayor of Manchester Councillor Elaine Boyes, Greater Manchester Police Authority Chief Cllr Paul Murphy, and Chief Prosecutor of the Crown Prosecution Service Nazir Afzal.

KYP won the ‘Special Award in Community Services’ in recognition of supporting, developing and empowering communities from the South Asian community within Rochdale and more recently across a number of local authority areas in Greater Manchester.

Zulf Ali, KYP Chairman, said: "This is a great honour for all people past and present connected with KYP that have pioneered a range of services and solution to meet the needs of local communities. All this would not have been possible without the support and partnership work with mainstream agencies such as Rochdale Council, the LSC and Job Centre."

Nadeem Mir, Chief Inspector at GMP Rochdale Division, won the ‘Uniformed Services Award’ for his distinguished and dedicated work within the GM Police force and excellent work that he has done within Rochdale communities.

Local business ‘Indus Print’ based on Drake Street Rochdale won the 'New Business of the Year' award beating off strong competition from a range of businesses from across the North West.

The awards and the CelebrAsians event were organized by Asian Lite Newspaper as part of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the paper's fifth anniversary.
