Next generation tachographs
Date published: 25 July 2012
If you have vehicles fitted with tachographs, you need to know about the recent decision by the European Parliament to call for all lorries of above 2.8 tonnes to be equipped with ‘new generation’ tachographs between now and 2020.
This would mean that lorries currently being sold in the EU would have to be retrofitted - since the new device is not yet available - and the oldest lorries still in circulation when it becomes available should be equipped at that time.
The Chamber has some concerns that this may cost businesses money to comply with an unwanted and unnecessary law. The International Road Transport Union has already raised its concerns and opposition.
If this will affect you please let the Chamber know.
A spoeksperson for the Chmaber said: "It is not too late to stop this, but we need to say 'no' with a firm voice."
