The Chamber is celebrating another successful trade visit, after meeting representatives of Lahore Chamber of Commerce.
The visitors from Pakistan met Chamber Chief Executive, Clive Memmott, and members of our International Trade Team.
Clive said: "As Chambers we share something very important in common. We are the largest, and most influential, Chambers in our respective countries.
"In the world of Chambers of Commerce, our large memberships mean that we have real influence over our respective governments (both national and local) as the representative voice of business (big and small) and therefore the voices of Lahore and Manchester are heard loud on our national stages.
"Our two cities are steeped in the history of the textile industry. Manchester was the home of textiles in the UK and Lahore is a major force in Pakistan’s huge textile sector. Manchester has had to radically diversify its economy and is now the country’s second biggest economic area with an economy worth over £50bn. Our city has become, by economic advance, and culture contribution, Britain’s second city. Outside of London we are the place that is best equipped for growth."
This visit by Lahore Chamber of Commerce follows a recent visit by Dublin Chamber of Commerce.
Working with UK Trade & Investment, the Chamber continues to organise and support a wide variety of market visits and sector missions to explore new markets and new opportunities.
In recent months, companies had the opportunity to join UKTI market visits to Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Indonesia and a sector mission to Russia. At the start of the year a programme for food sector companies included visits to Dubai, San Francisco and Barcelona.
Other market visits this year have included Vietnam, East Africa, the United Arab Emirates, Thailand and Hong Kong. We are currently finalising the details for the UKTI market visit to China and Malysia from 21st to 31st July, which coincides with both the Manchester City and Manchester United pre-season tours.
