Chamber in The House

Date published: 02 July 2012

Last week (June 27) the Chamber gave its regular quarterly briefing and update to Greater Manchester MPs. The events, which was held in the House of Commons and chaired by Chamber Chief Executive, Clive Memmott, saw 19 of the areas 27 MPs attend to hear updates on the latest Action For Business work and discuss views from businesses about current conditions and issues.

Paul Holme, the Chamber’s Skills Policy Advisor, gave an update on current activity and the Chamber’s Chief Economist, Dr Brian Sloan, gave an advanced preview of this quarter's Quaterly Economic Survey results, which will be officially released on Friday.

Chris Fletcher, the Chamber's Director of Policy, said “This is the third quarterly briefing session we have held with Greater Manchester’s MPs and the best attended yet. In addition to the key issues on the agenda a number of current pieces of work and campaigns that the Chamber is working on also raised a great deal of interest with the MPs.

"The calls for evidence we have out at present on local transport, broadband and Air Passenger Duty all got the conversation going, and it wasn’t all one way with many MPs asking for more information from the Chamber about what our members are saying about these issues.

"It is becoming more important than ever that we feed in as many members' views as possible on the work we are doing so that, as a group of MPs from the area, they can speak with authority to the right people in the right places to help deliver what local business needs.”
